The History of Magic
Magic tricks have been in existence for hundreds of years. In fact, the world's oldest magic book was written by Da Vinci's best friend and teacher, Luca Pacioli. The book has recently been translated into English for the first time, revealing the oldest existing text teaching those interested how to do magic tricks. Since that time, magic books have been published by magicians around the world, with iconic texts being written by Reginald Scot (1584), S.W. Erdnase (1902), and countless others.
Magic is an ancient artform that is constantly evolving. The art is expanding.
Magic has evolved quite a bit since the days of Da Vinci. Although coin magic and card tricks still exist today, many are much more complicated than the magic tricks and secrets outlined in Pacioli's book. This is partly due to advancements in technology as well as progression in the art of magic itself, with magicians like David Blaine and Criss Angel making magic more personal, intimate, and topical.
