CollectiblesThroughout history, designs on playing cards have been ever-changing. With so many different looks and textures and unique factors that distinguish one deck from another, many are led to collect playing cards. In 1970, the popular Jerry’s Nugget Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada printed up red and blue decks bearing the Jerry’s Nugget oil derrick sign on the backs of the cards. The decks were sold for fifty-cents each in the gift shop, until they were all snatched up around the summer of 1999. Today, the decks sell for upwards of $125/deck on eBay. Other rare vintage decks include Golden Nuggets and Carson City Nuggets. Playing card collectors such as Steve Forte and Chris Kenner house collections that rival that of an archive, with additional collections held under lock and key in the US Playing Card Company museum.
